Our First Team Title

At the heart of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is competition. Though we never pressure our athletes to compete, we fully acknowledge that if there is anything that will fast track your growth and level of understanding, it is competition. In fact, our entire coaching staff cut their teeth competing early on in their Jiu-Jitsu careers, helping solidify everything from their approach to learning to their approach to every roll.

In the past 4 years, we have fielded small teams to local tournaments every now and again, but only recently have we had the benefit of a deeper talent pool to help our competitors better prepare. Yesterday was a huge day for us! We took a small team of 9 competitors to the Raleigh Winter Championship hosted by Fuji BJJ where as an adult team, we were awarded 2nd place. This marks only the 3rd time we have competed as a team and firmly establishes us as a force to be reckoned with in the local competition scene.

Why is this important? North Carolina was among the few states that Royce Gracie visited during his historic run in the inaugural UFC. As such, many of the country’s earliest black belts are right here. Many of their academies have been around in one way or another for decades. So for our small team, comprised mainly of home-gown athletes, to disrupt the Jiu-Jitsu landscape this early into our history is a huge feather in our cap and we couldn’t be more proud.
